Launch of the Stratford-Perth County Historical Plaque Program 2012

in partnership with Stratford Perth Public Library invites the community to attend a public meeting Sunday February 5, 2012, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. in the library auditorium of the Stratford Public Library, to launch the Stratford-Perth county Historical Plaque Program. During the event eight property owners will receive plaques inscribed with the date their structure was built and the name plus occupation of the first resident.

The purpose of the program is to help citizens and visitors connect with the history of the community by identifying, with a plaque, commercial or residential properties built prior to World War II.

The Historical Plaque Program is dedicated to illustrating the social history and fabric of the community. The plaques will help tell the story of the ordinary people who lived and worked, and shared in the life of the community. The community’s story will be discovered by residents and visitors alike who will take note of the buildings of historical interest identified with a plaque. The Program will provide a visual appreciation of the community’s heritage, built and social.

The Historical Plaque Program is supported by a grant from the Stratford and Perth County Community Foundation.

Sunny Spain & Sophisticated France - Stratford Concert Band 2012

This concert is a cornucopia of soloists including many outstanding players from the Stratford Concert Band and a much loved vocal sylist, Caroline Dery. It's cold in Stratford in February, so we have chosen a program of warm Mediterranean music.  Caroline will sing favourites by Edith Piaf, the Habanera from Carmen, and Songs of the Auvergne. Our splendid English horn soloist, David Rose, will play Albeniz's unforgettable Mallorca and our two solo trumpets, Dave Manning and Al Mullin will each perform a fiery Spanish Passadoble for trumpet and band. As a special treat, the brass quintet of the band will solo in a comical tribute to the bandsmen in France as they traditionally celebrate Le Quatorze Juillet. It is by Jacques Brel's composer and arranger, Francois Rauber. Tickets will be available from Blowes Stationery Office Supplies and Hallmark Blowes Cards Gifts.

When: Feb. 26, 3 pm
Where: Central United Church, Stratford
Contact: 519-271-0409 tickets@stratfordconcertband.com
Hosted by: Stratford Concert Band

Octet

The sole work on this program is Schubert's Octet of 1824.  At one hour in length across six movements, we have a chance to hear Schuberts music at its most expressive and compelling.  Schubert was inspired in his Octet by Beethoven's Septet for winds and strings. However, with seemingly inexhaustible creativity, Schubert makes this large-scale chamber form his own. With the Factory Arts Ensemble in its largest incarnation yet, this concert is simply not to be missed.

Factory Arts Ensemble

Joshua Greenlaw - viola

Ben Bolt-Martin - cello
